The Unicode standard is an international standard for the representation of text expressed in most of the world's writing systems. It provides a unique number, known as its code point, for every character. The Unicode Standard Annex defines a code point as "a member of a set of numbers that uniquely identifies the corresponding character or code point according to the encoding scheme being used". The Unicode Consortium maintains these standards.
Additionally, Unicode is the universal character set, which has over 110,000 characters. It can be encoded using hexadecimal or decimal numbers which will then be converted into a set of numbers and letters that you can type on a computer.
The first 128 characters in Unicode are known as ASCII characters and represent common Latin alphabet letters, numbers, symbols, and punctuation.
