What is Percentage Change?

Percentage change is the difference between the current and original values, divided by the original value and multiplied by 100%. The percentage change is a measure of how much one value changes relative to another. Percentage changes can be either positive or negative, depending on whether the item's value has gone up or down in comparison to its original value.

When we talk about the change in the price of something, we typically use the term "percentage change." For example, if a stock price rises from $10 to $11 and the percentage change is 10% ($1/$10 = 10%) than that would represent a positive percent change. If it falls from $11 to $10 and the percentage change is -9.09% ($1/$11 = -9.09%) and that would represent a negative percent change.
