In mathematics, a prime number is a natural number greater than one that can be divided by only two natural numbers, 1 and itself. Prime numbers are a subset of natural numbers. Any other number that is not a prime number is called composite. There's an infinite number of primes.
Prime numbers are important for various reasons;
1. They are important because they play a role in many mathematical proofs and help differentiate between other types of numbers.
2. We can use prime numbers to factorize any composite natural number into its prime factors.
3. Prime numbers are also used in cryptography and other security methods.
4. Prime numbers can be used as a method of generating random numbers.
