Exponents

You may have heard the term "exponent" thrown around before, but what does it really mean? Exponents are used to indicate how many times a number is multiplied by itself. For example, if you were to take 3 and raise it to the power of 4, it equals 81. The base will always be the bottom number in the equation and the exponent is always written as an upper case letter on top of the base.

In other words, exponents are a type of mathematical notation that is used to represent repeated multiplication. Exponents might seem like a complex concept but they're not too difficult because the theory behind them is relatively simple. Basically, exponents are just shorthand for writing repeated multiplication.
