Decimal numbers, or Hindu-Arabic numerals, are used to represent numbers in base ten. The decimal system of numbers is the most commonly used. They evolved from earlier systems and were introduced in India and Arab by the 9th century AD.
In a decimal number system, there are ten digits: 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9. In this number system, each digit has a place value that is one-tenth of the corresponding power of 10. For example, in the number 23.5 the three digits can be deciphered: 2=2×101=20; 3=3×100=3; 5=5×10-1=0.5
A fraction is a number that expresses how one number is divided by another.
Fractions are typically expressed with a numerator, or top number, and denominator, or bottom number. Example of a fraction is 3/4. In this case, the numerator is 3 and the denominator is 4.
